Riot is/was a decentralized instant messaging app based on the open source Matrix protocol. In late June, Riot (the instant messaging client) announced that they would be changing their name. Yesterday, they revealed that their new name is Element.

Element is a super-secure, decentralized messaging platform
The Element messenger platform scores highly for its approach to security and its commitment to decentralization, and it's definitely going to be of interest to businesses wanting control over their own chats – as well as plenty of individual users as well.
Is Element messaging secure?
Element supports end-to-end encryption, groups and sharing of files between users. It is available as a web application, as desktop apps for all major operating systems and as a mobile app for Android and iOS.

Is riot IM secure?
The encryption in E2E-encrypted servers is considered beta last time I checked, and they say not to trust it with important secrets yet. It is open source and you can pick your own Matrix client and host your own server, so in theory you CAN create your own instance and know it's private (so long as it's secure).

How do you use element chat?
In every app you can start a chat with people who are already using Element (or another Matrix compliant app) by typing their display name or Matrix ID in the “Invite” box. Otherwise just type their email and they will be invite to use the app.
What is RiotX?
RiotX is the codename for an entirely new Matrix Client built by the Riot/Android team, intended to replace Riot/Android in the relatively near future.
Is riot a P2P?
Hooking up E2E Encryption APIs in Dendrite (not that it buys us much in a pure P2P world) ... Turns out that service workers aren't allowed to speak WebRTC, so we'll have to shim through to Riot to speak true peer-to-peer WebRTC data channels rather than relaying all the traffic through the websocket rendezvous server.
How many atoms does an element have?
